Enjoying Kokin Waka Shu in English-162 Ki no Tsurayuki-27
< Composed, hearing a lesser cuckoo singing on a mountain. >
I hear a lesser cuckoo singing,
In Matsu-yama or a mountain to wait, incessantly,
As if she is waiting for somebody, darling,
Which makes me remember someone I love, instantly,
And miss unendurably.
Ki no Tsurayuki
(Appreciation)
I hear a lesser cuckoo singing in Matsu-yama or a mountain to wait, literally, as if she is waiting for something. It makes me remember instantly someone I love and miss very much.
