来ようと言っても来ない時があるのに、来ないと言うのを、来るだろうと待ったりはしない、来られないだろうと言っているのに。

Otomo no Sakauhe no Iratsume
妻問婚(通い婚)の時代であったので、女性は、今以上に待つしかなかったのだ。「来てほしい」のが本音だろうが、来るのを期待などしない、ましてや来ないと言っているのだから、と自分の心を納得させようとしている。「来む」「来ぬ」「来じ」「来む」「来じ」と5度くり返し、ストレートに表現しているリズミカルでインパクトのある歌だ。

大伴坂上郎女(ｵｵﾄﾓﾉｻｶﾉｳｴﾉｲﾗﾂﾒ)(生没年不詳)は、万葉集の代表的な女流歌人。大伴旅人の異母妹で、万葉集の編者である大伴家持の叔母にあたる。長歌・短歌合わせて84首もの歌が収録されている。女性歌人の中で最多、全体でも大伴家持、柿本人麻呂に次ぐ3番目の多さである。
Otomo no Sakanoue no Iratsume (years of birth and death unknown) is a representative female poet of the Manyoshu. She was the half-sister of Otomo no Tabito and the aunt of Otomo no Yakamochi, the editor of the Manyoshu. A total of 84 poems, both long and short, are included in the collection. This is the most among female poets, and the third most overall after Otomo no Yakamochi and Kakinomoto no Hitomaro.
