一書に、天皇が崩御した時に、太上(持統)天皇作られたという歌二首
燃えさかる火を取って包んで袋に入れると言うではないか。お姿を知っているものを、雲よ。

ここでの「面」は逝去した天武天皇(ﾃﾝﾑﾃﾝﾉｳ)と考えられる。魂が去っていくのを雲が包んでこの世に留めて欲しいという含意だろうか。
The “mask” here is thought to be that of the late Emperor Tenmu. Perhaps it is intended to convey the wish that clouds would envelop the soul as it departs, keeping it in this world.
