春の夜の 闇(ﾔﾐ)はあやなし 梅の花 色こそみえね 香(ｶ)やはかくるる
凡河内躬恒(ｵｵｼｺｳﾁﾐﾂﾈ)
Spring night; –
The darkness is unreasonable,
Hiding everything in sight.
It makes the cherry blossoms invisible.
But not its odor unperceivable.

春の夜は、闇は役に立たないものだ。というのも闇に咲く梅の花は、色こそ見えないが、その香はかくれようがない
Darkness of spring night is useless,
It will put the cherry blossoms in the dark, but cannot make it odorless.
