Spring has passed and summer appears to have come along,

春が過ぎて夏が来たらしい、真白な衣が干してある天の香具山に。

Empress Jito

百人一首にもも収録されたあまりにも有名な女帝・持統天皇の歌。
春は過ぎ夏は来る。神聖な香具山に白妙の衣が今年も干されている。安穏な世をあらわす、また願った歌といえようか。
持統天皇(645-703)は、日本の第41代天皇。天武天皇の皇后、のちに持統天皇となり皇室史上3人目の女性天皇となった。
This is a famous poem by Empress Jitō, which is also included in the Hyakunin-Isshu, or One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each. Spring passes and summer comes, never changing. Once again this year, white robes are drying on the sacred Mount Kagu. Perhaps it represents and expresses a wish for a peaceful world.
Empress Jitō (645-703) was the 41st Emperor of Japan. She was the Empress of Emperor Tenmu and later became Empress Jitō, becoming the third female emperor in the history of the Imperial family.
